To our valued patients,

Due to the Freeze on Medicare rebates for over a decade and the ongoing increasing financial pressures of operating costs, as of 3rd January 2023, there will be changes to our billing structure.

Griffith Medical Centre and Hanwood Surgery have seen constant and increasing operational costs which have not only affected us, but the entire healthcare industry nationwide. This decision has not been made lightly. We are acutely aware of the financial stress that our community is currently facing, with rising cost of living affecting everyone.

Despite the increase in costs, the government have not increased the Medicare rebate enough to support your ongoing healthcare. Medicare rebates have barely increased in the last 10 years and as a result the current funding for General Practice is less than half of what it should be.

The below link explains the challenges that general practices have been facing for the past decade.

We encourage our patients to contact their local member of parliament with any concerns that they may have.

Whilst we understand that the new changes to our billing structure- no matter how small – are not a welcome change, we trust that you can appreciate the position that general practices are currently in.

The changes will be as follows:

FEES:

Our consultation fees will be increasing slightly. This is necessary in order for us to continue providing our patients with the best possible healthcare.

Our updated fees will be available on our websites, on display at our practices and information pamphlets are available at our front desk from 1 December 2022.
Griffith Medical Centre and Hanwood Surgery will be limiting to Bulk Billings.
– Children under the age of 5 years will continue to be bulk billed.
– DVA card holders will continue to be bulk billed.
– Pension card holders will be charged at a reduced rate
– Health care card holders will be charged at a reduced rate
– All other patients will be billed a standard rate.

Rebateable consultations fees will be claimed through Medicare at the time of payment.

If you have any question regarding this matter, please do not hesitate to contact us on 02 6964 5888 or email at

Thank you for your understanding,
